What is a B Corp?

B Corp Certification means a company has been verified by B Lab to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, governance and transparency.

Being a B Corp means being part of a global movement of companies that are committed to analyzing and measuring their environmental and social performance with the same attention traditionally reserved for economic results, and that use business as a positive force to produce value for the environment and the society.

How to obtain B Corp Certification

The B Corp certification is a certification issued by B Lab, an international non-profit network that works to transform the global economy for the benefit of all people, communities and the planet.

The B Corp certification measures a company's environmental and social impact and performance through a specific index called the BIA (Benefit Impact Assessment), which evaluates the company's commitment and actions with reference to ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance).

The process to become a B Corp is based on this rigorous impact assessment based on an in-depth analysis of five areas: Governance, Workers, Environment, Customers and Community.

A company becomes a B Corp only if it achieves a final score greater than or equal to 80 in the BIA.

The story of our B Corp journey

Since its foundation in 1956, OMTRA has been passionately committed to a sustainable future, improving the economic, social and environmental well-being of the community and remaining faithful to our fundamental values: work, family and ethics.

In 2021, we formalized our commitment by registering as a Benefit Company, a transformation which required the modification of our corporate bylaws and the annual reporting of our ESG impact in an Impact Report.

In 2022, we obtained EcoVadis Certification, an international rating platform that evaluates the ESG performance of companies' supply chains.

At the end of May 2023, after a rigorous process of measurement and analysis of the company, OMTRA received B Corp certification with a final score of 95.2, above the average of Italian B Corps (91.6) and much higher than the European average (90.7) and global average (88.9) in 2021. The highest score was recorded in the environment category with a total of 31 points, 10 points more than the Italian average, placing OMTRA among the top Italian companies in terms of results in this field. Also noteworthy are the scores relating to governance (17), workers (24.5) and the community (18.5), which are also higher than the Italian averages. More details are available at bcorporation.net 

Our final score is the result of a continuous and constant commitment, of important measures implemented in recent years, including a profound renewal of internal practices and an optimization of policies relating to corporate ethics, the environment and human resource policies.

Certification Notice

“Certified B Corporation” is a trademark licensed by B Lab, a private non-profit organization, to companies like ours that have successfully completed the B Impact Assessment (“BIA”) and therefore meet the requirements set by B Lab for social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. 

It is specified that B Lab is not a conformity assessment body as defined by Regulation (EU) No 765/2008, nor is it a national, European, or international standardization body as per Regulation (EU) No 1025/2012. The criteria of the BIA are distinct and independent from the harmonized standards resulting from ISO norms or other standardization bodies, and they are not ratified by national or European public institutions.
